Dancing Salamanders is music and writing. Songs on acoustic instruments (guitar, violin, mandolin, cello, flute) and alongside them, essays and longer stories.
Most of it comes from the same place: home, family, love, loss and the search for meaning through it all.
Writing
Writing doesn't close over. It lets us come back to the same thing as many times as we need to.
For us it does three things. It's a way to talk, sometimes to others, to ourselves and sometimes to the one who isn't here anymore. It's a way to reflect and to recollect; to slowly see a little more of what happened, a way to bear witness: to say this happened, she was here, it mattered, and to set that down honestly instead of letting it go quiet.
We don't have answers, and we try not to pretend we do. But we know it helps, and that it matters to not carry it in silence.
Origin
Dancing Salamanders and all that it contains is shaped by various landscapes, but it came about out of loss, the loss of my daughter Tima.
In all that it has become and now is, it is something I do in her memory and honour.
